UN studies indicate that in 2050 the world population will be 10 billion people. There will be almost 3 billion more people than we currently have. This means an increased need for food, clothing and various other resources. At the same time, we have one of the richest biomes on the planet to protect, and a more conscious society, which does not accept increased production in a disorderly way.

Therefore, we have 30 years to practically double the production of food and inputs for clothing, such as cotton, without increasing the total planted area. Several studies show that Brazil is the country with the greatest potential for this growth in sustainable production and such objectives, as history shows, will only be achieved with technology, trust and hard work.

Brazilian agriculture has always been a protagonist, being the main engine of the country's development over the centuries. Over time, Brazil gained importance on the world stage, thanks to its agricultural aptitude, its privileged climate and area extension. However, the great leap forward in the country's agriculture only began to take place in the mid-1950s, when agronomic studies gained importance and made professional agriculture viable in the Brazilian cerrado.

The country we know today, with its thriving agriculture, the breadbasket of the world, emerged from its own interior. This new Brazil, born from agronomic intelligence, driven by public bodies such as the IAC (Agronomic Institute of Campinas) and Embrapa, and also by the private sector, has brought technology and development to its other regions. It is this movement that makes the Brazilian cerrado the cradle of professional agriculture in the country, mainly in the grain area.

With Brazilian professional agriculture established, year after year, the demand for technology has been growing here. The cerrado region, responsible for 40% of Brazilian grain production, according to IBGE data, became a pioneer in the adoption of intelligent cultivation solutions. That's why when Fendt, a premium agricultural machinery brand, decided to come to Brazil, it chose the cerrado as the starting point for its operations.

The brand arrived in the country in 2019 with a portfolio of exceptional machines and solutions for Brazilian farmers. From Sorriso, in Mato Grosso, we started Fendt's operations with great confidence that the growing adoption of technology will also be the vector for Brazil to reach a new level on the international scene.

Important goals were set for the brand's first year in the country. Today, after this first year, we have overcome all of them, especially the most important one – gaining the trust of the Brazilian professional farmer. We brought the most powerful and reliable tractors in our portfolio, the Fendt 1000 Vario series, previously unheard of in South America and which has been delighting Brazilian farmers.

We have carried out the largest testing program in the world for the Fendt IDEAL combine, with 24 machines running on 45 different properties and more than 60 people involved in this effort. This demonstration plan showcased the high performance of the IDEAL series in harvesting practice. The Brazilian team, which led the project, included company specialists from different countries, such as Germany, Italy, the United States, South Africa, Argentina, Canada and Denmark. Furthermore, at the beginning of 2020, we made available to the market the evolution of the most technological folding planter in the world, which was developed in Brazil – the 40-row Fendt MOMENTUM, with fertilizer box.

Fendt's first anniversary in Brazil takes place in the midst of a pandemic that makes it impossible for us to meet with our customers and partners, but even this challenge was overcome, always with the help of our old friend, technology. Therefore, we expanded our portfolio, holding the first live launch of a Brazilian agribusiness product on the internet – the Fendt 900 Vario series of tractors, recognized as “Tractor of the Year 2020” at the largest European agribusiness fair.

Even with the uncertainties of the current global environment, Fendt will now explore new regions of the country, from its headquarters in the Cerrado, following the example of what happened in the formation of “Brazil’s breadbasket of the world”. Before the next soybean harvest, that is, until September 2020, we will have new Fendt dealerships in Primavera do Leste (MT), Campo Novo do Parecis (MT), Sidrolândia (MS) and Rio Verde (GO). Next, we go to Maracaju (MS), Cristalina (GO), Querência (GO) and Balsas (MA).

We will end the year with nine points of sale and ready to move on to new regions of the country and South America in 2021. Technology, trust and hard work, essential values so that there is no shortage of food in the world of the future, will also be the main values which will always guide Fendt's actions in Brazil and across the continent.
