Discover Quadra, Kuhn's seeder with an innovative concept

An innovative concept in Brazil, the Quadra Seeder, from Kuhn, allows producers to reduce the dose of seeds/ha and increase productivity in fine grain crops

With more than 20 years of experience in the pneumatic fertilizer and seed distribution system, Kuhn is providing access to more technology in the planting of fine grains with the launch of the Quadra line, seeders that guarantee homogeneous and quality planting.
The Quadra has a different concept from the seeders commonly seen in Brazil, with an exclusive chassis for the planting lines and an independent trailer for the reservoirs. This concept avoids excessive and variable load (as the machine plants, the load decreases) on the planting lines, which impairs furrow depth control, and allows for an increase in reservoir capacity. Common in countries such as the United States, Australia, Russia, Argentina and crops throughout Europe, the “airseeder” concept presented in this machine is unanimous when it comes to high technology, performance and productivity. 
Quadra is available in the AirFlow (fertilizer and seed) and Venta (seed only) versions, both of which can be configured for wheat and other fine grains and have an exclusive version for rice.

CHASSIS

The chassis of the Quadra lines is articulated into three modules and can be configured with a working width of up to 10m. The chassis was designed with characteristics that allow the modules to float independently. The articulation between them reaches 15° of amplitude, guaranteeing quality in fields with irregular relief, contour lines and mud in rice fields.
The chassis also stands out for its versatility in assembling planting lines, which can be arranged in a set of two tubes or can be assembled in four tubes. The assembly of the lines in four tubes allows a high planting speed without damaging the rammed earth, preserves the machine components due to the distribution of efforts and weight, requires less traction power due to a progressive passage of the rice rammed earth and facilitates access for regulation and maintenance of planting lines.

WHEELS
The trailer's wheelset is designed for great efforts, designed with a robust axle developed for agricultural use. The tires have a diamond-shaped tread, providing a greater contact area and less compaction. Manufactured with a special composite that increases the tire's durability and resistance to puncture.
The front wheels of the line chassis have tubular and pantograph arms. Robust and efficient, the tires have treads with different inclined planes to reduce the accumulation of dirt. The rear wheels of the line chassis work with a rocker system that guarantees high fluctuation during work and stability during transport.
The rear wheels are offset to minimize drag when maneuvering. Associated with this, the front wheels have a free turning system and this combination of concepts is responsible for making the row chassis rotate on its own axis, reducing the turning radius and increasing the maneuverability of the tractor-seeder set.

SELF TRANSPORTATION
Another advantage of the Quadra is the ease of transport between cultivation areas, the machine does not depend on auxiliary wheels and complementary implements to be taken from one area to another. Changing from the working position to the transport position is carried out safely, without the operator having to disembark from the tractor. In just a few seconds, the machine is ready to be transported from one field to another.
The transport width is an important differentiator in Quadra, with 4,75m in total width and 3,20m in the wheels, the seeder is easily transported via roads, bridges and gates, without the producer having to carry out any type of modification, assembly or decoupling.

PLANTING LINE

Kuhn's pantographic planting lines are established in Brazilian crops, with their robustness and quality recognized throughout Brazil. Quadra's lines have high fluctuation and an amplitude that allows perfect planting in any type of relief, guaranteeing a uniform depth, whether in coxilhas, contour lines or rice paddies.
Line maintenance is reduced, as they do not have lubrication points on any pantograph joint. With an exclusive sealing system, the pantograph joints are sealed, preventing the entry of contaminating elements.
Unlike the concept of pivoted lines, where the angle of attack of the disc and the working position of the drivers are affected by the terrain of the crop, Quadra's pantographic lines perfectly copy the irregularities of the ground. As a result, the deposition of fertilizer and seed in the planting furrow is homogeneous, the result is a crop with uniform emergence, excellent tillering of plants and full provision of nutrients for the crop's development phases.

RESERVOIRS
The input reservoirs are located on the trailer, arranged strategically to optimize the supply operation. The operating platform is positioned between them, allowing quick and easy access to the two reservoirs from a single workstation. As a result, the fertilizer and seed supply operation is carried out in a safer and more agile way. The shape of the reservoirs favors complete filling without the need to move the bag throughout the operation. Lightweight lids with quick closures increase the operator's ergonomics, in addition, the reservoirs have a safety sieve to prevent impurities from entering the interior, such as stones, branches or plastic waste.
The Quadra line has high quality and durable stainless steel reservoirs, to extend the useful life of the equipment. The surface finish of the sheets makes cleaning the tanks easier. The exclusive geometry was developed with angles that favor complete filling, while at the same time the flow is complete.
The capacity of the reservoirs guarantees superior performance. In the AirFlow version, the capacity can exceed 5.000 kg of fertilizer and 2.300 kg of seed. In the Venta version, the seed capacity reaches 3.000 kg. The increase in operational efficiency that only the Quadra line can provide to the producer is evident.

STREAMING
The Quadra’s transmission is electro-hydraulic. Driven by the tractor's power take-off, a pump drives all the components necessary for the transmission and distribution of seed and fertilizer.
As it is an independent transmission, the tractor does not need to have controls with continuous flow, avoiding oil contamination and overheating.
To ensure perfect planting, the Quadra line's hydraulic system has a controlling valve that keeps the hydraulic motors of the turbines and dosers at the right speed even with possible fluctuations in the RPM of the tractor's power take-off, allowing safe and error-free planting.

PNEUMATIC DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM
Seed and fertilizer distribution takes place through a fully pneumatic system, patented and exclusive to Kuhn. Present in all Kuhn seeder lines in Europe and the United States, the system was tested and validated on Brazilian soil for three years. Currently, there are seven years of sowing in crops in the South, Central-West and North regions of Brazil.
More than 285 thousand hectares were sown with precision, efficiency and high productivity. An innovative and highly reliable system that guarantees a return to the producer in the first harvest.

The system is made up of two main elements: the doser and the distribution head, the first being responsible for ensuring the correct dosage of fertilizer or seed and the second for dividing this dose proportionally for all lines.
Made from stainless steel and engineering polymers, the dosing rotors have a coefficient of variation of less than 5%. The exclusive self-cleaning system prevents wet fertilizers from accumulating in the rotor channels, causing imperfections in the dose.
The range of rates is another differential of Quadra, reaching doses of less than 2kg/ha of seed and 40kg/ha of fertilizer, the same system can exceed 200kg/ha of seed and 500kg/ha of fertilizer.
This range of dosages is perfectly divided between the planting lines through the distribution head, an essential element for perfect planting. Without adequate dosage division, there is no point in the rotor being precise. The distribution head is responsible for ensuring gram for gram that the lines receive the same amount of fertilizer and seed.

MONITORING AND CONTROL
Quadra fits perfectly into the concept of precision agriculture. All fertilizer and seed lines are monitored as standard. Developed on the Isobus platform, the electronic system is easily compatible with all tractors on the market, without the need for additional monitors in the cabin. All control and monitoring of the seeder is carried out on the same monitor as the tractor.
Section cutting and variable rate in fertilizer and seed are elements available as standard, enabling producers to further increase crop productivity, save inputs and improve their management techniques.
All the features present in the Quadra line were developed within the strictest management and quality processes, ensuring Brazilian producers a product that meets increasingly high expectations and demands in an extremely competitive market.
